365Daily – An Abuja High Court has granted an order stopping the Government of Ebonyi State from arresting former member of the House of Representatives, Linus Okorie, pending when a case before the court on a breach of his fundamental human rights is determined.
Also included in the order are the Inspector General of Police, the Department of State Services, the Attorney General of the Federation and the Attorney General of Ebonyi State.
Others are Ebonyi Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Internal Security and the Ebonyi State Security consultant.
Hon. Okorie and the Governor of the State, David Umahi, have been engaged in a political war, with the former accusing the latter and his aides of plotting to arrest him over concorted charges related to insecurity in the state.
The request for the restraining order which was contained in a case filed by Hon. Okorie with number FHC/ABJ/CD/108/2022, was granted on Thursday, February 3, 2022 by the presiding Judge, Hon. Justice I. E Ekwo.
It was filed on January 28, 2022.
The interim order stated: “An interim order by this court restraining the respondents, whether by themselves, their agents, employees or by whatever name called, from either arresting or detaining, or threatening to arrest or detain the applicant, pending the hearing and final determination of the motion on notice, for the enforcement of the fundamental rights of the applicant of this matter.”
