The National Youth Service Corps,(NYSC) has urged 1,735 corps members comprising, 887 male and 848 female, sworn-in in Ekiti to promote the unity of the nation.
The Director General of NYSC, Brig.Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, made the call at the swearing-in ceremony at NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Emure-Ekiti, in Emure Local Government Area.
Represented by the Ekiti Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Mary Chikezi, Ibrahim, said that scheme had carefully deployed corps members out of the their states of origin in order to promote the unity of the country.
Ibrahim urged the newly sworn-in corps members to be of good ambassador of the scheme.
“In line with some of the objectives of the NYSC, we deliberately posted you away from your state of origin in addition to assembling you here from diverse ethnic, religious and socio-economic background.
“These deployment policies are aimed at broadening your understanding of the country, thereby standing you in good stead for effective contribution to the promotion of the unity and integration,” Ibrahim said.
He, thereafter, encouraged them to ensure healthy interactions, exchange of ideas and lasting friendship with a view of advancing the progress of a United Nigeria.
” My dear compatriots, today, you have taken the solemn oath to dedicated yourselves to the service of our fatherland.
“I enjoin you to always ponder over the significance of the oath and be guided by its spirit and letter,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the oath was administered by the Ekiti Chief Judge, Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, who was represented by Justice Adeniyi Familoni
The programme was conducted in line with the observation of COVID-19 protocol compliance.(NAN)
