The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Wednesday charged a 35-year-old woman, Mariam Adegoke, with drug trafficking.
The defendant is charged with unlawful deal in one kilogramme of Cannabis Sativa, before a Federal High Court in Lagos.
The charge is pending before Justice Ayokunle Faji. The defendant will be arraigned on Nov. 26.
The prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, alleged that the defendant committed the offence on Oct. 15.
Aernan said that Adegoke was arrested at Mushin, Lagos, for unlawfully dealing in the restricted substance.
According to the prosecutor, Cannabis, Cocaine, Heroin and other hard drugs are listed in the NDLEA Schedule as prohibited.
Drug trafficking contravenes the provisions of Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act of 2004, which stipulates a penalty of up to life imprisonment for the offence. (NAN)
