Seven police officers were ambushed and killed by bandits along Tofa – Magami Road in Gusau local Government, Zamfara State Capital.
Impeccable source from the Zamfara State police command revealed that one of the policemen was burnt beyond recognition adding that his body was packed in a sack.
The names of the deceased, four of whom were in the rank of inspectors Markus Donal, Solomon Amfemi, lshaya Stephen, Gambo Nura, sergeant Abdul Garba and one other.
A source living in the area of the incident revealed that the incident occurred about 6pm on Monday when the police personnel went to the area on patrol.
The bandits, according to the source set the police operational vehicle ablaze after killing them.
The source said that the bandits who were in large number engaged the Police operatives in a gun battle, as a result of which seven of them were killed on the spot.
He disclosed that he has seen the corpses of of the officers being evacuated to Gusau.
The spokesperson of the Yarima Bakura Specialist Hospital Gusau, Awwal Ruwan-doruwa confirmed that, seven dead bodies of the slain police operatives were brought to the hospital.
The spokesperson of Zamfara state police command SP Mohammed Shehu confirmed the Incident exclusively to AljazirahNigeria .
He revealed that the state commissioner of police CP Ayuba Elkanah has visited the scene of the incident while security has been beef up in the area.
