365Daily – The founder of the recently inaugurated indigenous airline, United Nigeria Airlines, Dr. Obiora Okonkwo, has said that his company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, to take in some engineeing students of the University on internship.
Dr. Obiora revealed that 20 students from the Mechanical Engineering department of UNIZIK would participate in the internship programme, and they will be introduced to the aviation industry in order to gain useful practical experiences.
He made this disclosure on Monday, November 1, 2021, in Awka, after signing the agreement with the university authority.
Obiora, who is also a candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in next Saturday’s Anambra State governorship election, said that apart from the internship programme, he had also signed two other agreements with the university.
These include an exchange programme with universities in Russia, and also, research, development and production of animal feed at the university.
“I promised the University that students who distinguish themselves during the internship programme will be automatically employed at United Nigeria Airlines,” he stated.
He added: “Also, I promised the university that I will explore opportunities to enhance the marketability of graduates of Europen Languages of UNIZIK by introducing the study of Russian at the school.
“These, I have done within my private capacity to demonstrate my love for youth and human capital development in Anambra State. It hurts me to see talents go waste because of lack of opportunities.
“My solemn promise to Ndi Anambra is that I will continue to work for your good at all times.
“Come with me as we explore the future together.”
Obiora added that “if elected as the Governor of Anambra, the State education sector will be redesigned to reflect the today and future manpower needs.”
