365Daily – A viral video has shown popular Nollywood actor, Chiwetalu Agu, popularly known as Ichie Ogwu, being brutalised by armed military men at Upper Iweka Road, Onitsha, Anambra State.
Unconfirmed reports say he was subsequently arrested.
The video showed military men in uniform beside a green mini bus with the inscription, ‘Chukwuwetalu films’, on its sides in the busy street. The actor was seen pacing pacing round before entering the van as if to leave but he was dragged out and physically attacked by the military men as he fell to the ground.
The actor and comedian was dressed in an outfit made out of the Biafran flag, which is the official emblem of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The scene attracted passerbys who gathered and started raising their voices in protest of the treatment being meted on the actor and in a bid to disperse the gathering crowd, the soldiers started shooting into the air while people scampered to safety.
Only last Month, a picture of Agu wearing the same outfit went viral on social media.
Anambra State has been witnessing heightened insecurity with killings perpetrated by yet to be identified men and attacks on government agents and institutions.
The IPOB has vowed not to allow the upcoming November governorship election to hold in the state.
On Wednesday, the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, threatened that the Federal Government would impose a state of emergency to address the situation.
However, the state Governor, Willie Obiano, said President Muhammadu Buhari assured that there would be no declaration of emergency rule.
