365Daily – The All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial flagbearer in the November 6 elections in Anambra State, Sen. Andy Uba, has announced the postponement of his campaign flag-off to a yet to be disclosed date.
This is just as he vowed to deploy all legal means at his disposal to check political motivated killings in the state.
He said these in a letter addressed to the people of the state which was personally signed by him on October 1, 2021.
Sen. Uba said he was saddened and grieved by the “recent unfortunate and mindless state of violence and insecurity in Anambra State.”
“As a mark of respect and honour to all those who have lost their lives, I, in consultation with the leadership of our great party and campaign Council, have decided the campaign flag-off rally scheduled for Saturday, 2nd October, 2021 in Onitsha,” the letter stated.
The APC guber-candidate, however, stressed that the decision was not premised on a bid to score political points as he understands, as the Igbo tradition and culture holds, the sanctity of life.
Lamenting the inability of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) government led by Gov. Willie Obiano, to address the insecurity challenges in the state, he added: “I have also watched with disdain, obvious breakdown of institutional capacity and inability of APGA led government to address security challenges and prevent the state from further descent into anarchy and chaos.”
He condoled with the family of the deceased and urged the people of the state to go about their lawful activities knowing that they are under the divine protection of God.
“My sincere condolences to all who have lost loved ones in the ongoing politically motivated killings in Anambra State. To Ndi Anambra who are living in fear of their lives and properties as a result of the ongoing mayhem, I bring you a message of hope; hope in God under whose protection as Christians we go about our daily activities; hope in our collective capacity and republican nature to resist all forms of evil, even when perpetrated under the watch of the highest civil authority in our dear state; and finally, our collective hope in the capacity of our heroes past (our ancestors) to guide and intercede for us before God,” he said.
While affirming the commitment of APC to true democratic practices, electoral integrity, peace and security, he urged his supporters to continue in door to door grassroots issue based engagement on the party’s manifesto.
