365Daily – The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, has assured of justice for all persons indicted by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for alleged involvement in a multi million cyber fraud committed by Instagram celebrity, Ramon Abbas, AKA Hushpuppi.
He said this while receiving the report of a Special Investigation Panel (SIP) on the FBI indictment of the former head of the Police Intelligence Response Team, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari.
A statement issued by the Spokesman of the Nigeria Police Force, Commissioner Frank Mba, on Thursday, August 26, 2021, said the report was submitted by the Chairman of the SIP, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Joseph Egbunike, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Mba said Egbunike appreciated the IG for the confidence reposed in him and the members of the panel, adding that the panel commenced investigation immediately after it was inaugurated on August 2.
He said Egbunike assured that the report was an outcome of a painstaking, transparent and exhaustive investigative process that also contains the case file of the probe, evidence and findings and testimonies from Kyari and others mentioned in the matter.
The Spokesman said: “The IGP, who commended the panel for the work done, stated that the essence of the probe was to carry out discreet investigation into the allegations levied against the officer to enable the force leadership to be appropriately guided in its decision-making processes.
“The IGP gave an assurance that a careful and expeditious review of the recommendations would be undertaken by the Force Management Team and thereafter, forwarded to appropriate quarters for necessary action(s). He reiterated as always, the commitment of the force to justice for all.”
Kyari is accused to have received $20,600 from Hushpuppi, who in July, pleaded guilty to a multi million fraud charge filed against him by the U.S. government involving business persons in the United Arab Emirates.
He was suspended from service on July 31 by the Police Service Commission (PSC), pending the outcome of the SIP probe.
The police is expected to submit the panel report to the PSC.
