The under-15 boys football team of Bwari Area Council on Thursday in Abuja emerged champions of the 2021 FCT Football Association Inter- Area Council under-15 tournament.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in the competition’s final match at the Area 3 football pitch, Bwari beat the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) 1-0 to win.
A first half goal by Umar Yahaya put Bwari in the lead, and in the second half AMAC tried their best to equalise but they could not convert their goalscoring chances.
Speaking after the match, the Bwari Area Council coach, Wilson White, said he was very happy that his players won the competition.
“I never expected them to go this far, because our opponents did well in their previous games,” he said.
On his part, the coach of AMAC, Ifeanyi Ubah, said he was taking the loss in his stride as there was always a loser or a winner in every match.
“I am happy that my players displayed a good performance in the match.
“It’s unfortunate that they could not record any goal in this final match.
“Now, we will look for new players for the next edition,” he said.
NAN reports that a total of six teams from the territory’s six area councils participated in the tournament, namely Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kwali, Abaji, AMAC and Kuje.(NAN)
