365Daily – All seems not to be well in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State as it edges closer to the much anticipated November 6 Governorship election.
The Campaign Organisation of Mr Valentine Ozigbo, the winner of the party’s primary election, has been hit by a crisis as key stakeholders have rejected their appointments to the campaign council.
According to those who rejected the appointment, they were not appropriately consulted or allowed to make input into the setting up of the campaign council.
The PDP had unveiled what it described as a high-powered campaign council comprising a former Vice Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, Senators Uche Ekwunife and Stella Oduah, among others, to sell Ozigbo’s candidacy.
Announcing the campaign structure at a media briefing in Awka, the PDP had named Dr. Winston Udeh as Co-Chairman, while Hon. Emeka Azubogu was named among the zonal directors.
They made this known respectively through their media organisations and included member representing Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Engr. Chris Emeka Azubogu, Senator Stella Oduah, former National Publicity Secretary of the party, Sir Olisa Metuh, Barrister Obunike Ohaegbu and the immediate past party chairman in the state, Mr Ken Emeakay.
In the flurry of rejections that followed the announcement, Emeakay accused Ozigbo of being more interested in causing more division in the party in the state than in uniting members prior to the governorship election.
He stated: “You have for reasons best known to you, deliberately side-lined and relegated to the background, key PDP stakeholders and grassroots influencers.
“It does seem to me that you are about repeating the same mistakes of 2017, and I do not see how someone will keep doing same thing over and over again and expecting to get any different results.”
The PDP’s Valentine Ozigbo will face off against the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the poll.
