Rangers International Football Club of Enugu have started planning for the forthcoming Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season to enhance a good outing, a club official said on Friday.
Norbert Okoli, the club’s Media Officer, told newsmen in Enugu that the club’s management had concluded its deliberations on preparations for the forthcoming season.
“The contract of some players, whose contracts have expired, will not be renewed while some of those who still have running contracts may still be shown the exit door.”
He said Rangers International, just like various other teams, have continued to re-strategise for the upcoming 2021/2022 season and have concluded plans to let go dozens of its playing staff.
“This is to make room for more productive ones to help the club effectively challenge for both the league title and the Aiteo Cup,” Okoli said.
He disclosed that this decision was arrived at after a lengthy deliberation between the club’s management and technical crew.
“Those who still have their contracts left may still be shown the exit door depending on the concerned player’s performance in the just-concluded season,” Okoli said.
He added that some players would be departing due to one reason or the other while some would leave as their contracts have expired.
“We need to quickly do the needful for us to challenge for both the Aiteo and League title next season.
“The reason for this is that our performance in the just-ended season fell short of set target,” the club spokesman said.
Okoli said the club’a management has determined to comb both within and outside the shores of the country for quality legs with proper professional attitude.
“These will be players who will help us realise our dreams in both competitions and to deliver the goods at the end of the coming season.”
He said the players were already enjoying a two-week break as the season ended and were expected back in the last week of August to commence preparations for the new season.
“The players were dispatched at a brief get-together of all players, coaches, backroom staff and top management staff at the players’ camp on Friday.
“Owumi, the club’s General Manager, thanked all for their contributions in the just-concluded season, saying the league was not an easy one,” Okoli added.
