365Daily – Chidinma Ojukwu, the prime suspect in the murder of Super TV Chief Executive Officer, Usifo Ataga, has been arraigned at the Yaba Magistrate Court in Lagos State.

Ojukwu, a 21 year old, 300-level Mass Communication student at the University of Lagos, was arraigned alongside another suspect, Adedapo Quadri, on Monday, July 9, 2021.

Chief Magistrate of the court, Adeola Adedayo, ordered that the duo should be further remanded for 30 days, following an application by the police, pending the issuance of a Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) report on the matter.

Director, Office of the Public Defender (OPD) Dr Babajide Martins, who observed that the prosecution failed to furnish him with the remand application, did not oppose Ejiofor’s prayer “on principle.”

The judge, while acceding to the request, said: “The case is hereby adjourned till September 5, for review of remand/DPP’s advice.”

Usifo was found dead with multiple stabs on June 16, 2021, at a short let apartment on Adebowale Oshin Street, Lekki Phase I, where he had checked in with his lover, Ojukwu.

She was subsequently arrested on June 23 in her father’s house in Yaba and paraded at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja.

The suspect confessed to stabbing Usifo with a knife under the influence of alcohol and withdrawing N380,000 from the victim’s account with his ATM card.

She, however, backtracked later in a video, absolving herself from the murder.

Usifo, aged 50, was buried on July 30.
