365Daily – The Senate has rejected the nomination of Ms Lauretta Onochie as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Onochie is President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Social Media.
Her rejection followed the recommendation of a report laid by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on INEC, Senator Kabiru Gaya, on Tuesday, July 12, 2021, in plenary.
The report stated that Onochie’s nomination was in breach of the principle of Federal Character Commission which is enshrined in the 1999 Constitution.
Gaya noted that Delta State which she was supposed to represent has been adequately represented by May Agbamuche-Mbu, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Legal Services, who is also from Delta State.
