365Daily – Leader of Yoruba World Congress, Emeritus Prof. Banji Akintoye, has alleged that seven persons were killed in an early morning attack on the residence of Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho, in the Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The attack took place on around 1am on Thursday, July 1, 2021, hours before a planned rally calling for the secession of ‘Yoruba Nation’ scheduled to hold in Lagos State.
On January 26, 2021, Igboho’s Soka residence in Ibadan was gutted the house by yet to be ascertained assailants.
Akintoye said a statement issued by his Communications Manager, Mr. Maxwell Adeleye, that Igboho’s wife was also abducted by the attackers.
The statement was titled, ‘Yoruba Nation: Elements of the Nigerian Army, Accompanied by International Terrorists hired by the Nigerian State attacked Sunday Ighoho’s Residence – Akintoye.’
He further alleged that “the assailants were all dressed in military uniform and spoke French language fluently,” adding that “the gunmen killed seven occupants in the building and whisked Igboho’s wife and several others away.”
Earlier, the Media Aide to Sunday Igboho, Olayemi Koiki, had declared two persons were killed during the attack.
“The situation now is very bad. Two Yoruba sons have been killed in the house of Chief Sunday Igboho. The two dead bodies have been taken away by the military. We do not know of the location where they were taken to,” Koiki said in a Facebook Live.
“I can confirm that those who came are definitely Nigerian soldiers. There are more than 100 soldiers that came,” Koiki said.
“The situation is very active as more security operatives in about seven Nigerian Army patrol vans have arrived.”
“He (Sunday Igboho) is currently safe.”
Pictures from the scene of the attack showed cars and walls of the house riddled with bullets and broken windshields.
The Oyo Police Public Command was yet to make a statement on the incident at the time of filing this report.
