Sokoto State Goverment under the Leadership of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal will not relent in its implementation of the new salary structure of N30,000 which it began last year.
Aminu Abdullahi Abubakar, Director of Press to Sokoto State Deputy Governor on Saturday, May 1, 2021 revealed this via a statement made available to 365Daily.
Governor Tambuwal who stated this at the 2021 May Day Celebration in Sokoto on Saturday, also noted that his administration has been consistent in paying salary since he came into office.
The Governor who spoke through his Deputy, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya said: “We are among the first states that are prompt in payment of salaries and pension. We were also among the first few states that have been implementing the new minimum wage of N30,000.”
He listed other benefits that civil servants in the state enjoy as: “sale of all government quarters to occupants, majority of whom are civil servants, the allocation of the Kalambaina Housing Estate and the granting of approval for the securing of a N2 billion loan via the Nigería Labour Congress (NLC) for the procurement of 10,000 motorcycles to be given as loans payable in 24 months.
Another benefit that the state civil servants have been enjoying, stated the governor are: digital training and re-training of workers in ICT.
He expressed happiness with the cordial relationship that exists between the State Government and the state chapter of the NLC, noting that this has made it easier for thorny issues involving the welfare of the union members to be resolved amicably.
The Sokoto state governor tasked the workforce to leave up to expectation as the State Government is willing to listen, act and implement all issues raised about salary, pension and gratuity.
On local government health workers, the governor said the State Government has “constituted a special critical stakeholders Committee on the streamlining of their pension payments in line with subsisting Pension Law of 1979 so as to cater for their needs.
Highlight of the May Day celebration in the State was a parade by over 35 workers union drawn from Federal, State and local governments.
