365Daily – The Imo Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service has confirmed an attack on its facility in Owerri but said the total number of inmates that escaped has not been verified.
It, however, said many inmates escaped and some yet to be ascertained number of operational vehicles were razed down.
The Public Relations Officer of the Service in Imo, Mr James Madugba, while confirming the incident to newsmen in Owerri on Monday, April 5, 2021, said it occurred at about 2.00 a.m Monday.
He stated, “We can confirm that the facility was attacked at about 2.00 a.m. Monday with operational vehicles burnt and many inmates at large.
“We have yet to confirm definite figures but we’ll make them public as soon as possible.”
Madugba urged residents to go about their business as the situation was under control.
