Ebonyi State Government has disclosed that its University College of Medicine at Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state, will soon commence production of kidney disposables and kidney transplant.
The Governor of the state, Engr. David Umahi, stated this on Monday, March 15, 2021, after a tour of the project site.
Umahi said during the facility tour, which was led by the Registrar, Dr. T.A.B Sanusi, that the College of Medicine which is already nearing completion, would, among other health care needs of the people, be producing many other emergency and complicated health disposables.
The Chairman, South-East Governors’ Forum, stated that the feat would be achieved in spite of the lean resources of Ebonyi State.
“It is willpower that has taken us this far. This administration, despite the lean the resources that comes to the state, is committed to achieving the best as far as the college is concerned,” he stated.
He assured that his administration would ensure the sustenance of momentum and speedy completion of the project within a few couple of days.
“Everything that would enable a smooth operation of the college has been put in place. The surrounding road networks are being constructed. The College would be completed soonest and it will be one of the best in the country,” the Governor declared.
Addressing newsmen after the facility tour, the Registrar, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, MDCN, Dr. T.A.B Sanusi, said that the new College of medicine after completion would be a masterpiece that would stand and be difficult to rival.
Sanusi, who expressed satisfaction with what is on ground so far, maintained that, “though, we are regulators, we are also partners and we go along with Institutions to correct deficiencies.
“We are here to ensure a smooth transition from the old to new site, with minimal mistakes for the benefit of all. We are highly encouraged by what we have seen and we must encourage others to emulate this.”
A member of MDCN, Prof. E.C.J. Nwanna, said that the structures and other facilities being put in place at the new college ”were not common in this part of the country” and commended the resources, energy and zeal being deployed to the project.
“I can only ask that the state Governor should please sustain the momentum and ensure the completion of the project at the minimum time so that the college can transit,” he appealed.
