Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, has disclosed the deployment of 6,000 troops to Zamfara State by President Muhammadu Buhari, as part of efforts to address rising criminality in the state.

Explaining that the troops would complement the efforts of the current security forces in the state, Matawalle also announced that large movement of motorcycles has now been declared prohibited in the state.

The Governor made the disclosures via his Twitter handle, @Bellomatawalle1, on Wednesday, March 10, 2021.

Matawalle, a former House of Representatives member, also warned that purveyors of fake news would henceforth be dealt with, alongside any politician that incites violence and endangers the security of the state.

“@MBuhari has approved the deployment of 6,000 troops to complement efforts of the current security forces in the state.

“As a further push to bring to an end the activities of armed bandits, Conveyance of more than two persons on a motorcycle is hereby banned with immediate effect

“Movement of motorcycles in large numbers is banned, spreading fake news by social media users will not be tolerated, anyone found in this act will be dealt with decisively. Traditional rulers and sole administrators of LG council are to always remain in their respective domains.

“Any politician that incites violence and endangers the security of the state will be apprehended and dealt with. Security agents are directed to arrest and arraign violators for prosecution,” he tweeted.

Zamfara has been in the news for abductions and killings by bandits. Recently, about 300 schoolgirls were abducted from their school by bandits who arrived on motorcycles. The girls have been released. Shortly after the incident, the Federal Government designated the state a no-fly-zone and prohibited all mining activities.
