The Senate on Tuesday, March 2, approved the request of President Muhammadu Buhari to confirm the appointment of new service chiefs.
This followed the consideration and adoption of the recommendations of a report presented to the Senate by the Committee on Defence where the request was referred to after it was read in plenary.
Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, had given the committee, led by Senator Aliyu Wamakko, two weeks to work on the request and report back to the Senate in plenary.
The confirmation made by the Senate are as follows: Major Gen. Lucky Eluonye Onyenuchea lrabor – Chief of Defence Staff; Major General Ibrahim Attahiru – Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo – Chief of Naval Staff and Air Vice Marshal Isiaka O. Amao – Chief of Air staff.
Recall that President Buhari announced the appointment of the new chiefs to replace the former Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas; and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.
In his remarks, Senate President Ahmad Lawan advised the new service chiefs to win the war against bandits and insurgents.
