Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro said that he remains the authentic Caretaker Chairman of the South West PDP, saying any suspension from any group other than the party’s National Working Committee is an exercise in futility.
In s statement made available to 365Daily, Ogungbenro said his purported suspension is the handiwork of mischief makers bent on creating division with the party while calling on party faithful to rally behind him and the Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde to build a party that can deliver in future elections.
He said, “My attention has been drawn to a release from a group purportedly suspending me as the caretaker chairman of PDP in the South West. While by my nature and upbringing, I do not wish to trade words with people in public, particularly on issues that we can use internal mechanisms of our party to resolve ( if any) I strongly took exception to people arrogating to themselves, power that do not belong to them.
“So I state here that I remain the bonafide caretaker chairman of PDP in the South West, as they have no such powers.
“The only authority that can suspend me is my appointing authority which is the NWC of our great party. I wish to humbly add that when leaders of goodwill are running up and down to build the party for a good showing in coming elections, it is simply unfortunate that despite all entreaties, these set of people are bent on destroying the party, forgetting that those who destroy to reach the top will meet destruction waiting for them.
“I must remind all lovers of peace in the party too that these are the same people who blindly refused to teem up with the leader of the party in the zone, H E. Seyi Makinde to move the party forward. By God’s grace, their WISH to decimate the party will not come to pass.
“All loyal members of our great party should therefore ignore the release and continue to work for the success of our party in future elections.
“While I, Dayo Ogungbenro remain the chairman of PDP in the South West, the sponsors of the release remain largely wishful thinkers, the statement concluded.
