The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested over 40 suspected armed robbers and cultists, in response to recent robbery incidents in Uyo, the state capital.
This was disclosed on Thursday in Uyo by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Odiko MacDon, who said that police, “relying on credible information, in a painstaking operation, stormed criminal hideouts within Uyo Metropolis, believed to be part of the nest hibernating some of the hoodlums responsible for Wednesday night’s breach of the peace within Uyo.
“A total of 40 suspected armed robbers/cultists were arrested. And some items recovered from the criminals, include, two locally made pistols, five cutlasses, a bag of substance suspected to be Indian hemp, among other exhibits.”
According to the PPRO, on interrogation, “the suspects admitted being part of the cult groups responsible for cult related murder and robberies within Uyo metropolis recently.
“A discreet investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of their culpability and they will be charged to court immediately after.”
The Command warned that under the leadership of the current Commissioner of Police, Andrew Amiengheme, it would continue to exercise zero tolerance for criminality in any part of Akwa Ibom State and would do all within its powers to sustain the peaceful atmosphere of the state.
