The speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Suleiman, has been elected as the new chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria.
Suleiman took over from Lagos State House of Assembly speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, who has completed his 2-year tenure.
The change of baton took place at Reiz Continental Hotel in Abuja late Thursday, with the formal handing over to Suleiman, who is now saddled with leading the conference for the next two years.
Other members of the committee include deputy chairman (Speaker Delta), Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori; treasurer (Speaker Kogi), Hon Matthew Kolawole; Financial Secretary (Speaker Enugu), Rt. Hon Edward Ubosi; vice chairman, North West (Speaker Katsina), Rt. Hon Tasiu Musa Maigari and vice chairman, North East (Speaker Gombe), Rt. Hon Sadiq Ibrahim Abubakar.
Others are vice chairman, North Central (Speaker Plateau), Rt. Hon Abok Nuhu Ayuba; vice chairman, South West (Speaker Ogun), Rt. Hon Olakunle Oluomo; vice chairman, South East (Speaker Ebonyi), Rt. Hon Nwifuru Francis and vice chairman, South South (Speaker Akwa Ibom), Rt. Hon Aniekan Bassey.
Speaker Obasa’s tenure achieved success in financial autonomy for state legislatures and the judiciary and maintained a cordial relationship with the government of President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
