The Lagos Judicial Panel investigating alleged shooting of #EndSARS
protesters by officers of the Nigerian Army at Lekki Tollgate in Lagos State on Friday found five bullet shell casings at the scene of the alleged attack.
According to agency report, the Justice Doris Okuwobi (Rtd) Judicial Panel visited the scene of the alleged Oct. 20 shootings to conduct an on-the-spot of the scene as part of its investigations into the incident. It had earlier suspended sitting at the International Court of Arbitration, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, to visit the Tollgate plaza scene of the shootings.
Others present during the inspection of the scene include Mr Abayomi Omomuwa, the managing director of the Lekki Concession Company (LCC), Mr Gbolahan Agboluwaje, head of the Legal Department of LCC and the media.
The five bullet casings were found on the floor, inside the gutter and on the stairs of the Tollgate plaza by people present there.
Speaking at the event, Omomuwa told the panel that the Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras mounted on a mast at the toll gate area was working during the shootings.
He, however, noted that though the footage of the happenings of October 20, 20202 had been captured by the CCTV, it is currently not working due to damage caused by hoodlums during the carnage of October 21.
After the end of the investigative visit, Justice Okuwobi (Rtd) disclosed that the discovered bullets casings had been admitted as evidence, adding that the panel would suspend proceedings as the Managing Director of the LCC had no legal representation.
She also noted that the panel had not admitted the footage as evidence yet but when it is admitted in evidence, it will be played at the proceedings.
The sitting was adjourned until November 3 for the testimony of the managing director of LCC to be taken.
#EndSARS protesters were allegedly shot by officers of the Nigerian Army on the 20th of October, 2020 at Lekki Tollgate in Lagos, after which the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, set up a judicial panel to investigative the event.
